Biographies of Judicial Convicts Imprisoned and Executed During National Socialism

Geert Callewaert, grandson of Eugeen Callewaert, 2023

22 biographies exemplify the different ways judicial convicts from the Federal Republic of Germany, the German Democratic Republic, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Norway were treated in the post-war period. Did they or their families receive welfare benefits, compensation, or other recognition? How do the imprisonment and societal treatment affect subsequent generations to this day? The selected biographies provide insight into these questions. The project team conducted research in Belgian, Dutch, Norwegian and German archives and conducted life history interviews with relatives. Excerpts from these interviews are included in 14 of the selected biographies.
